What is hosted PBX? It uses the Internet to make and receive calls

What is hosted PBX?

A hosted private branch exchange (PBX) allows small and medium-sized businesses to have a sophisticated telephone system without the investment in telephone equipment. The entire telephone system is operated and maintained by your Voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider.

A hosted PBX lets employees work from their home, a hotel, or on their cell phone while still being connected to the same office telephone system. You can transfer callers, put them on hold with music, set up conference calls, or have the phone answered by an automated attendant who can direct callers to different departments.

How a hosted PBX works: receiving calls

1. Callers dial your company’s phone number, as they usually would.

We can usually port your current number, or we’ll get you a new one–local, international, or toll-free.

2. Callers are greeted by a custom auto-attendant.

You can include options for the departments at your company or individuals. Greetings and system operation can be scheduled to match your business hours or holidays.

3. Your cloud PBX manages call routing through your business.

After callers select a department or individual, your hosted PBX routes the call to where the caller specified.

4. Employees can answer the phone and work from anywhere.

Calls can go to any kind of phone, in any location in the world; faxes and voicemails can also be accessed online or as email attachments.
